van de Water, Pieter (Bass II)
Born 25 September 1936, Helmond, Netherlands
Died 22 September 2016, Adelaide
It's not often that a webmaster has to write and publish an obituary about his own brother. It's hard, which is the reason for the delay since the event. My brother was instrumental in getting me to join the choir in 2001, and has mentored me in music and in life since our father died in 1961.
Pieter was one of the most respected men in the Liedertafel. A magnificent bass, the others in his section would vie to stand alongside him because of his skills at learning new songs quickly and being able to hold notes accurately. He joined the choir in 1989, and almost from day 1 served on the committee as treasurer and assistant secretary. Pieter received many awards for services to singing, but his proudest achievement was to be awarded Life Membership of the Adelaider Liedertafel 1858 in 2013.
No choir, least of all the ALT 1858, can afford to lose singers of Pieter's
calibre and maintain the same standard. And no man can afford to lose a brother
We mourn their passing
